Austin B. Blake III

Austin B. Blake III age 57, of the farm in Cumberland, OH passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, OH due to an unexpected medical issue. He was born November 24, 1965, in Clarksburg, WV. Austin was the son of Austin Blake Jr. of Green, OH and the late Linda Samples Morris.

Austin was a man whose actions were driven by his strong values. He was a ponderer. A deep thinker. He took matters into deliberation prior to acting. He had integrity and this made him an honorable man. One might not assume this based on his cool demeanor and the humor (often inappropriate) he brought to any situation. He thrived on routine, but he did not waver when it was disrupted. He went with the flow which brought peace to the women in his life as he was a “girl dad”, through and through.

Austin was an avid outdoorsman and cared for the land he resided on with his family. He was often found mowing, piddling, and tinkering with tasks that might improve the scenic property he so cherished. Although he might have suggested otherwise, he had remarkable “people skills” which served him well in his 22-year career with Nickles bakery. He was not a man to take to the grocery store if you were in a hurry.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law Gayle C. Bachtel, a man who greatly influenced Austin and guided him in developing the traits that allowed him to care for the land – and his girls. Austin is also preceded in death by one of his favorite companions, his dog Moose.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Dawn R. Bachtel Blake whom he married July 11, 1987; two daughters Sara (Danny Elliott) Blake of Zanesville and Megan (Chris) Rowe of Cumberland; brother Greg Blake of Tallmadge, OH; cousin Jimmy (Lin) Samples of Vienna, OH and Tina (Neil) Vick of Akron, OH; aunt Diana (Mark) Dalic of Sandusky, OH; mother-in-law Gloria G. Bachtel of Cumberland; his beloved companion, his dog Stanley. Austin is also survived by many friends.

The family hopes that friends will come as they are for visitation Monday, November 27, 2023, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will conclude visitation Monday, November 27, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow the service.
