IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Griffith
September 2, 1958 – February 13, 2026
James A. “Cricket” Griffith age 67, of Dresden, OH passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 at his home. Though it was Friday the 13th, it was a day marked by peace, love and family. He was born September 2, 1958 in Scott County, TN son of the late Leamon and Susie (Lackey) Griffith.
Cricket graduated from Scott Highschool in Huntsville, TN. From there he moved to Lorain, OH in 1976. This is where he met his wife of 40 years, Melissa Bennett Griffith. He worked for U.S. Steel in Lorain for 10 years. He later moved into the field of construction where he was able to create countless enduring projects inside and outside of homes. With every nail, screw and board Cricket placed, he laid just as many foundations for lifelong friendships. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing pool and riding his Harley.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sons Nicholas and Franklin Griffith; brothers Wayne, Keith and Jerry Griffith; maternal and paternal grandparents, Everett and Mary Griffith; Aunt Alice Birchfield and his “sneaky little sidekick” Jack L. Bennett. They would go on road trips long and short. Cricket often returning to say, “Dad said don’t tell Melissa, I had a strawberry shake and a greasy burger.”
In addition to his wife Melissa, those left to cherish his memory are his children Amber (Chris) Reed of Wellington, OH, Allen W. Griffith of Dresden, and Jacob Cameron of Nova, OH; grandchildren Braeden, Donovan, Landon, Raelynn and Keegan; siblings Jewel (Gary) Hawkins of Dalton, GA, Chuck (Carolyn) Clark of Dalton, Ed (Sheila) Clark of Dalton, JR (Victoria) Griffith of Blanchester, OH, and Sherry (David) Crocker of Williamsburg, OH; Mother-in-law Mary Bennett of S. Amherst, OH; Sisters-in-laws Rosie (Tobie) Phillips and Laura (Ed) Born of S. Amherst; Brother-in-law Jack Bennett of Lorain; special uncles Mark and James Griffith who were like brothers to him. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A special shoutout to all of Uncle Crickets “Little Buddies” through every chapter and all space and time of his life. You know who you are.
“I see you Melissa”
Cremation will be observed with no additional services to be held at this time. Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation service, 609 West Street Caldwell, OH 43724 has been entrusted to care for the family.
