Roy Cunningham Sr. age 90, of Cumberland, OH passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Beckett House in New Concord, OH. He was born October 7, 1927 in Branchland, WV a son of the late Hart J. and Ona Faye Brunty Cunningham.
Roy served and protected his nation in the United States Army in WWII. He was a member of the Cumberland United Methodist Church and the Belle Valley American Legion #641. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son Jerry Cunningham; daughter Angela Cunningham; 2 step-sons Jeffrey Wheeler and Elvin A. “Butch” Wheeler II; a brother Hart Cunningham Jr., and a son-in-law Ralph E. Miller.
Those left to cherish his memory, are his wife Peggy Baker Cunningham, whom he married September 21, 1970; 2 daughters Patty (Gary) Rossiter and Diane Miller all of Caldwell; a son Roy (Lori) Cunningham Jr. of Cumberland; 2 step-sons Gregory Wheeler and William “Bill” (Debra) Wheeler all of Cumberland; grandchildren Tracey (Patrick) Saling, Gary (Diane) Rossiter, Heidi (Kris) Pfalzgraf, Shon (Amy) Miller, Shannon (Craig) Sebring, Shelly Miller, Kaitlin (Tristian) Calderhead, Zayne Cunningham, Michael (Tonya) Wheeler, Brett (Lyn) Wheeler, Heather (Del) Grafton, Jill (Ernie) Varhola, and Billie (Matthew Wolfe) Wheeler; several great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Howard (Doris) Cunningham of Caldwell and Donald (JoAnne) Cunningham of Marietta; a sister Linda (Jim) Spiker of Arizona; last but not least his buddy and dog Otis. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Hoskinsville Cemetery, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
