Robert G. Wells age 90, of Dexter City, OH passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born June 6, 1926 in Noble County, OH a son of the late Ernest L. and Ruth Naomi Combs Wells.
Robert served and protected his nation in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the Dexter City American Legion #418 and the VFW Post #4721 in Caldwell. He was very active in the Masonic Community; he was a member and Past Master of the Sharon Lodge #136 F. & A. M., member of the Chapter & Council #78 in Marietta, OH, Grand Commandery of Ohio, and a 32nd Degree Mason – Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge. He was retired from the Noble County Highway Department after many years of service to his community. Robert enjoyed carpentry work and could always be found working on his farm.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Nina Kathleen Stewart Wells, whom he married June 16, 1948 and who passed away May 3, 2006; 4 brothers Marion Earl Wells, Russell L. Wells, Delmar Wells, and Paul L. Wells; 2 sisters-in-law Nellie Wells and Shirley Wells.
Those left to cherish his memory are 3 daughters Roberta (Tim) Schenkel of Zanesville, OH, Marie (Rick) Ralston of Marietta, and Martha (Mike) McCoy of Barlow, OH; 2 sons Chris (Tammy) Wells of Dungannon, OH and Dwight Wells of Dexter City, OH; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Minnie Wells of Chesterhill, OH and Ruth Wells of Caldwell. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, November 4, 2016 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724, with a masonic service held at 7:30 PM by the Sharon Lodge #136 F. & A.M. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jim Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Williamson Cemetery near Dungannon, Ohio, with military graveside services conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
