Shirley M. Van Meter age 74 of Cambridge, OH passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Altercare Summit Acres Skilled Nursing & Rehab, under the care of Hospice of Guernsey Inc. She was born May 1, 1947 in Cleveland, OH a daughter of the late Arthur Miller and Mary Clay Miller Witek.
She was retired from the former Ford Motor Company having worked at the engine plant in Brook Park, OH. She enjoyed camping, dancing, and most of all fishing.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband James L. Van Meter Sr. whom she married December 30, 1966 and who passed away January 5, 1988; son Robert Arthur Van Meter; sister Denise L. Brown.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Mary (Ron) Bloch of Quaker City, OH; 4 stepchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; a special cousin Joan Jones of Lakewood, OH. She is also survived by several friends.
The family will receive friends for memorial visitation Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A memorial service will conclude visitation Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 1:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Slay officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Dover Burial Park in Dover, OH at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Guernsey Inc. and their staff for the attentive care offered to Shirley for almost two years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Shirley’s honor to the Hospice of Guernsey Inc. or the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center.
