Roena P. (Smith) Bates

Roena P. Bates age 88, of Caldwell, OH passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at the Summit Acres Skilled Nursing & Rehab in Caldwell. She was born February 16, 1932 in Noble County, OH a daughter of the late Laurel O. and Pearl McKee Smith.

She was a member of the Caldwell Church of Christ and was a 4-H Advisor for many years. She retired as a school bus driver for the Caldwell Exempted Village Schools, following over sixteen years of service. She will be remembered as a wonderful seamstress.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Donald W. Bates, whom she married June 27, 1953: children LaDonna (Bob) Cordell, Lorraine Davis, Galen (Michele) Bates, Glenda (Dan) Skidmore, Bryan Bates, and Leah (Kevin) Davis; grandchildren Tyler (Fiancée Rebecca) Cordell, Tracy Davis, Gabriella, Wade, and Samuel Bates, Roy (Nikki) Skidmore, Kelly Skidmore, Joshua (April) Bates, Morgan (Justin) Miller, Madison (Cody) Heddleson, Ariel (Trevor) Bates, Kevin (Heather) Davis, Dustin Davis, Katlyn (Dave) Dailey, and Kalob Davis; 20 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy J. (Don Bridgman Sr.) Schott, nephew Edward Schott; 2 nieces Elizabeth Dimmerling and Janie (Steve) Crum.

The family will receive friends for a Graveside Service Friday, June 5, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the Dudley Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Garrett officiating. Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724 has been entrusted to care for the family. Memorial contributions may be directed in Roena’s honor to the Caldwell Church of Christ, 104 Cumberland Street, Caldwell, OH 43724.
