Richard Donald Hesson age 83, of Dexter City, OH passed away Thursday evening February 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 26, 1936 in Middleburg, OH a son of the late James Harry and Beulah E. Bettinger Hesson.
He started work in the strip mines for Freedom Coal in 1957 and finished his career retiring from the Central Ohio Coal Company in 1999. Following retirement, he worked for Jackson Township for many years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Local #1604. He was an active Mason and held membership in the Sharon Lodge F. & A.M. #136, Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, Marietta Shrine #12 W.S.o.J., Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus, and the Aurelius Chapter #60 Order of Eastern Star. He enjoyed his Saturday morning coffee. He could often be found working on the farm, but was most happy spending time with his favorites, his grandchildren and their many activities.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son; 1 brother Harry Merrill Hesson; 2 sisters Marilyn Jean Heavner and Louise Mitchell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Connie A. Houston Hesson whom he married June 7, 1958; 4 children Michael (Jennifer) Hesson of Dexter City, Mark (Melissa) Hesson of Beverly, OH, Cheryl (Joe) Herlan of Dexter City, and Amy (Mike) Crum of Caldwell, OH; 8 grandchildren Nikki (Jonathan) Schott, Leann (Logan) Clark, Darren (Fiancée Sara) Hesson, Allison and Megan Hesson, Hannah and Jacob Crum, and Alex Herlan; great-grandchildren Coen and Alden Schott, Landry and Lynslee Clark; brother Robert Leland (Sandra) Hesson of Beverly. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724, with Eastern Star and Masonic Services to conclude visitation at 5:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 2, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Beverly Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the Williamson Stack Cemetery near Dungannon, OH.
Memorial contributions may be directed in Richard’s honor to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607.
