Marie M. Crum Crock Canel age 94, of Caldwell passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Summit Acres Skilled Nursing & Rehab in Caldwell, OH. She was born November 13, 1925, near Fulda OH, a daughter of the late Frank J. and Elizabeth Blake Crum.
Marie spent all of her life in Noble County, attending school at Fulda and attending St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Being raised on a farm she continued many of the skills from the early years of having a garden, canning fruit and vegetables, making quilts for family and church. At one time she sold quilts in Amish Country. She also enjoyed embroidery and crocheting.
She worked as a clerk at Food Center in Caldwell until her retirement. In retirement she enjoyed traveling to many places with friends including Evelyn Christmas and others. She enjoyed hunting squirrel, rabbits and deer. In the summertime she could be found fishing and she received a Fish Ohio award in 1998. She was also in a bowling league at King Pin Lanes of Byesville, OH.
Marie raised her four children in Caldwell, and they became known for their work in the community as did their father, the late Leander Crock who passed in 2010. Marie later married Paul Canel who passed in 2007.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by nine siblings, Helen Burkhart, Irene Noll, Edgar Crum, Carl Crum, Bernard Crum, Cora Linderman, Alfred Crum (who was killed in WWII) his twin Alberta Minster, Viola Crum; son-in-law Jackie Robinson; granddaughter Roberta Robinson; and step-grandson James Reyher.
Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter Judy Robinson, three sons, Dennis (Thomasina) Crock, Don (Julie) Crock, and Edward (Kathy) Crock. Grandchildren Brian (Robin), Troy, Jackie (Ashley) and Tyler (Brandi) Robinson, JR (Tori) Sayre, Dominic (Amy) Crock, Angela (Kelly Saling) Crock, Wesley Crock, Chris Crock, Brittany (Harish) Yalamanchili, Luke (Nicole), Jacob (Stephanie) Reyher, Annie (Joe) Binkiewicz, Brandon (Allison) Crock, Ryan (Abby) Crock, Stephanie Crock, Ranae (Whitney) Hamilton, Jeanette (Jason) Feldner, Janelle (Jason) Given, and Ray (Jennifer) Smithberger. Many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild born this year. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral home, 609 West Street, Caldwell OH 43724, with a vigil service concluding visitation at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held Monday, February 24, 2020 at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:30 AM with Rev. Father Wayne Morris serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
