James E. Polen, age 89 of Lowell, OH passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Heartland of Marietta in Marietta, Ohio. He was born May 9, 1931 in Mingo Junction, Ohio a son of the late Earl Clyde and Hilda Grace Pasco Polen.
He served and protected his country in the US Army as a paratrooper in the Korean War. He was a member of the Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Whipple, the American Legion Post 750 in Lowell, Lowell Lodge #436 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, and the Marietta Shrine #12 W.S.o.J. He was self employed as a truck driver for many years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Emma Jean Mowrey Polen whom he married July 12, 1951 and passed on February 15, 2013; brother Walter “Sparky” Polen and daughter-in-law Tami Polen.
Those left to cherish his memory are 3 sons Joseph (Donna) Polen of Lowell, Tom (Vicki) Polen of Caldwell, and James (Charlotte) Polen Jr. of Atlanta, GA; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Nina) Polen of Brilliant, OH; sisters Mary (John Bungert) Lutz of Seward, PA, Gracie (Rich) Devore of Brilliant, and Margie Polen of Mingo Junction, OH. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 2, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Roger Grantham officiating, with military honors to follow. Burial will follow in the Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain, Ohio.
