Gerald “Jerry” D. Leister age 72 of Cumberland, OH passed away Sunday evening, March 8, 2020 at his home. He was born April 6, 1947 in Marietta, OH a son of the late Dale and Anna Myers Leister.
Jerry was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran having served and protected his nation in the Vietnam War. He was active duty as a sergeant until 1971 and then moved on to serve as a civilian on the Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia for 10 years. He eventually went on to retire from the former NCR Corporation plant in Cambridge in 1984. He was a member of the Cambridge American Legion Post 84, Cambridge VFW Post 2901, Cambridge AMVETS Post 70, and DAV Chapter #28. He was the Guernsey County Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, member of the Guernsey County Park Board Association, Cambridge C.D.C., and a Cumberland Village Council Member. He was a former Advanced E.M.T. working with the Byesville, United, and Cumberland emergency squads. He will always be remembered as a big supporter of the local United Way and all their campaigns.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son Rick Leister; twin siblings- a brother and sister.
Those left to cherish his memory, are his wife Deborah L. Yerian Leister, whom he married April 21, 1989; 2 daughters Jennifer Leister and Jerri Lynn Leister both of Cambridge; several grandchildren; 2 brothers Darrel (Joyce) Leister of Fairborn, OH and Art (Denise) Leister of Florida; father-in-law and mother-in-law Dale (Doris) Yerian of Cumberland. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel,,with Rev. Greg Thacker officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Burial will follow in Hiramsburg Cemetery near Belle Valley, OH.
