Gayle C. Bachtel age 73, of Cumberland, OH formerly of Akron, OH passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH. He was born October 10, 1944 in Akron, a son of the late George H. and Nettie M. Snyder Bachtel.
He retired from the Roofers Local #88 in Akron, following 45 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman, he could always be found hunting, fishing, and being a good steward of the land. He will always be remembered as a very enthusiastic teacher and mentor. He took pride in imparting his knowledge of nature that could be applied in every facet of life.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant sister Delores Bachtel; sister Betty (Ray) Doan; brother Paul Richard Bachtel, and brother-in-law Virgil Light.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Gloria G. Lee Bachtel, whom he married August 9, 1963; a daughter Dawn (Austin) Blake of Cumberland; 2 granddaughters Sara Blake and Megan (Chris) Rowe; siblings Bill (Gail) Bachtel of Norton, OH, Robert Bachtel of Cambridge, OH, Harold (Barbara) Bachtel of Newcomerstown, OH, Darlene (Larry) Pemberton of Batavia, OH, Marlene Bachtel of Barberton, OH, Carl Bachtel of New Philadelphia, OH, Charlene (Bill) Ruskiewicz of Doylestown, OH, and Jolene Light of Barberton; sister-in-law Isabel Bachtel of Akron; last but not least his dog and companion Neko. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will conclude visitation Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 5:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with his brother Harold Bachtel officiating. Cremation will follow the service with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Gayle’s name to Ohio Department of Natural Resources, 2045 Morse Road, Building G, Columbus, OH 43229.
