Vernon Ray Hughes

Vernon Ray Hughes Jr. age 74, of Cumberland, OH passed away Thursday morning November 29th, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of Guernsey. He was born July 29, 1938 in Caldwell, OH a son of the late Vernon R. and Luetta Miracle Hughes Sr. He drove semi for over 50 years, he owned and operated Vernon Hughes Trucking. He also owned and operated the former Hughes Motor Sales in Cumberland for many years. He was a member of the Cumberland United Methodist Church and the Freeland Valley Antique Power Club. He enjoyed riding horses, having his cat and dog around, but most of all loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a Brother Larry Dean Hughes; 2 Sisters Betty Kerr and Shirley Miller. He was loved and will be missed by his family, Wife Dorothy Paisley Hughes of the Home, whom he married December 22nd, 1967; Son Donnie (Bridget) Hughes of Caldwell, OH; 2 Daughters Beth Ann (Don) Humphrey of Tacoma, WA and Kimberly Power of Cambridge, OH; 6 Grandchildren Clint, Jared, Brittany, Darin, Aerica and Devin; 1 Great Grandchild Ashton; Sister Brenda (Tom) Williams of Pleasant City, OH. He is also survived by several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends. Friends will be received Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 3rd, 2012 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Keith Taylor Officiating. Burial will follow in Cumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Cumberland United Methodist Church- Elevator Fund, 437 West Main Street, Cumberland, OH 43732 or Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box #1165, Cambridge, OH 43725.
