V. Dale Garrett, age 78 of Caldwell, OH passed away Saturday Evening, May 28th, 2011 at his home in Caldwell, OH. He was born November 26th, 1932 in Noble County, OH a son of the late Wilfred C. and Alma Lumbatis Garrett. Dale was a Graduate of the Summerfield High School, where he was a basketball standout. Following high school he enjoyed playing baseball and softball. He coached several youth recreation baseball and softball teams. He could be found at every sporting event his grandchildren participated in and also enjoyed following his favorite baseball team the Cleveland Indians. When not following sports, he enjoyed hunting for many years. Dale was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and he also participated in the Noble County Performing Arts. When Dale wasn't singing, you could often hear his voice announcing Caldwell High School basketball, football or for several years baseball games, as he was the "Voice of Caldwell Sports" for many years. He retired from the former Dana Corporation Plant in Caldwell following 48 years of service and then moved on to work at Riesbeck's in Cambridge for another 10 years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Thelma Schehl. He was loved and will be missed by his family, Wife of nearly 60 years Kathleen Hesson Garrett of the home, whom he married June 16th, 1951; 2 Daughters Sheryl (Richard) Wyscarver of Quaker City, OH and Sharon (Larry Hayes) Garrett of Sharon, OH; 4 Grandchildren Abby (Dean) Fusco, Lindsay (Keith) Roe, Bradley (Jacalyn) Clark and Ashlee Clark (Sean Tominey); 3 Great Grandchildren Wyatt & Leslie Roe and Nicholas Fusco. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Cooper Officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Cemetery in Caldwell, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Caldwell United Methodist Church, Stained Glass Window Fund, 537 Main Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724.
