Sandra Modesitt

May 16, 1951 — October 23, 2024

Sandra Modesitt (Marshall), 73, of Marietta, Ohio succumbed to her battle of health issues Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in her home where she fell asleep at peace and gained her wings.

Sandra was born May 16th, 1951, in Wood County, WV, the daughter of Mary Huffman. Sandra was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, class of 1969. She worked for an in-school program and worked in several office agencies that provided for the community such as the Red Cross, Community Action Head-Start, and the probation parole office.

After high school she had a son, Dale Marshall, and maintained a factory job until a few years later, she married Lewis Modesitt, and had another son, Chris Modesitt. In 1986 when her sons were older, she went back to school at Washington Technical College and obtained a degree in Secretarial typing and advanced word processing. She later put these skills to use throughout her life. She was a dedicated women who liked to stay busy and give back to her community. She was an advocate for women in Domestic Violence and provided services to the local women’s shelter.

She received several awards such as one from, “The General Assembly of The State of Ohio, House of Representatives” (2019), presented her with an award for her 10 years of service as a foster grandparent. Her other awards include a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her generous support to Disabled American Veterans (2013), outstanding volunteer service in the Head Start Program, and a Volunteer Appreciation for her dedication and hard work for the Community Food Pantry (2000).

She also worked at Ely Chapmen as she loved to work with kids and to be around them. Even with all these awards and accomplishments, her greatest love and achievements was with her grandchildren; she enjoyed being a grandma to all and was always giving advice and tried to do what she could to make them feel loved, appreciated, and cared for. She was a free-spirited woman who put her faith in God and chose to freely be herself no matter what life threw her way. She was always lending a helping hand anywhere she could and made a lot of friends through her generosity and good-natured spirit. To quote Sandra for all who knew her and would appreciate one last piece of advice, “Always ask for wisdom and then make up your own mind, and make sure taking care of yourself is always a number one priority”.

She is survived by her adoring sons, Dale Marshall of Marietta, Ohio (Heather), and Chris Modesitt of Marietta, Ohio (Ruth); Grandchildren, Patrick Marshall, Anastasia Marshall, Andrew Carpenter, Kimberly Modesitt (Mathew), Timothy Modesitt (Eerie), Isaac Modesitt, and David Modesitt; Great Grandchildren; Elsie Cain, Angelina Negri, Lilliana Negri, Ryker Ruble, Stella Pangle, and Eleanor Carpenter; Siblings, Margret Dobbins and Virginia Huffman; Ex husband turned lifelong friend, Lewis (Butch) Modesitt, and her best friend Sue Wallace.
