Sam Mcmannes

Sam McMannes age 68, of Charlotte, NC formerly of Marietta, OH passed away Monday evening December 12, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born May 11, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, OH a son of the late Jack Gregory Scott and Betty Cochran Elliot.

Sam was raised at the Licking County Childrens Home and went on to graduate from Caldwell High School in 1967. He served and protected his nation in the United States Army. He later retired from the former Eramet manufacturing plant in Marietta, after 33 years of service. He also was employed at Glenwood / The Pines retirement community in Marietta. He could often be found spending his free time building wooden toys.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Colene McMannes who passed away in 1975.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Joan Handschumacher McMannes, whom he married February 21, 1971; 2 sons Scott (Shelly) McMannes of Huntersville, NC and Robert (Robin) McMannes of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren Scott, Zachary, Cheyann, Elizabeth & Caleb McMannes, Vallery, Daycee, Chelsea, Brooke & Connor Washington; sister Kathryn Pryor of Lower Salem, OH. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends will be received Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Twin Rivers Baptist Church, 110 DAV Road, Whipple, OH 45788, where a funeral service will conclude visitation at 3:00 PM with Dr. James Rushing and Pastor Jeff Baumer officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery near Lower Salem, with military graveside services conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
