Norman Spencer Bowker, age 90 of Caldwell, passed away Sunday November 27th, 2011 at Summit Acres Nursing Home after a valiant four year battle with cancer. He was born in 1921 to the late William Spencer and Clara Elsie Bowker. Mr. Bowker retired from Lockheed Aircraft in 1986, where he worked as a purchasing agent for over 28 years. Mr. Bowker served in the United States Coast Guard for six year as and was a signalman on the USCGC Campbell, which in the Battle of the Atlantic rammed and sank numerous Nazi submarines. He was an enthusiastic member of the USCGC Campbell Association and with his wife, attended over 20 Association reunions in the US and one in England. He also served Noble County in many volunteer capacities. Among his varied community activities, he was a board member of the Tri-County GMN, manager of the Samaritan House, supporter of the local Girl Scouts and donor of over 20 gallons of blood. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lois Kirchner Bowker of Caldwell; a sister Virginia Bowker Egli of Washington; his son William Spencer Bowker of Florida; daughters Linda Christine Bowker and Susan Bowker Webb both Georgia; two stepsons Taylor and Charles Kirchner; two stepdaughters Roberta Kirchner and Ruth Kirchner Hayes; three step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. There will be a private service for family members at a later date. The family would like to thank the Summit Acres Nursing Home staff for their kind care of Mr. Bowker during his recent stay there. Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724 has been entrusted to care for the family.
