Biography

Lewis W. Long, age 85, of Caldwell, died Friday Morning (Feb. 3, 2006) at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell. He was born Nov. 14, 1920 in Dexter City, Ohio a son of the late Harry and Blanche (Mallett) Long. Lewis served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1944 to 1946 serving in the Southeast Pacific, Phillipines and China. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 64 in Marietta, he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Member of Macksburg Aurelius Lodge #308, being the Oldest Living Past Master of the Lodge and a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #60. He retired from teaching at the Belle Valley Junior High, where he coached junior high basketball. He was formerly the Mayor of Dexter City and a School Board President for many years. He was an avid square dancer being a member of the Curly Q's. He served on the Caldwell Public Library Board and was a Protestant by faith. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by Daughter Susan Roach. Surviving are his wife Virginia A. Long of the home whom he was married to for 66 years; Son Mike (Pam) Long of Columbus; Grandson Matthew (Laura) Long of Washington D.C.; Great-Grandchildren Meghan & Amanda Long; Grandson Nathan (Tiffany) Long of Cincinnati, OH; Great-Grandson Ethan Long; Grandson Adam Long of Chicago; Granddaughter Jennifer (Lee) Offenberger of Marietta; Great-Grandchildren Lyndsay & Ryan Offenberger; Extended Family Phil (Linda) Roach of Winter Park, FL and their children Michael (Susan) Roach of Charlotte, NC and their Daughter Lily Roach; Alison (Nate) Banchiere of Asheville, NC Private services will be observed by the family at their convenience. Memorial Contributions may be directed in Lewis' Memory to the Caldwell Public Library, P.O. Box #230, Caldwell, Ohio 43724. Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724 has been entrusted to care for the family.
