Larry Darrell Bates

Larry Darrell Bates age 72, of Caldwell passed away Tuesday morning, January 26, 2010 following a brief illness, at Summit Acres Nursing and Rehab in Caldwell surrounded by his family. He was born August 24th, 1937 in Noble County, OH, a son of the late Myron V. and Alberta M. Archer Bates. Larry was a 1956 Graduate of the Sarahsville High School and attended the Ohio State University. He was Lutheran by faith and a member of the VFW Post #4721 in Caldwell. He retired from the local Dana Plant in 2000 following 42 years of service. Larry loved his family very much and enjoyed watching the grandchildren play sports and show their 4-H projects at the Fair. He enjoyed traveling, especially on bus trips. He was an avid sports lover and enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling. He was an animal lover and could often be seen walking his dogs on Sunset Drive. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Carol Gibson and a brother James Bates. Surviving are his wife Joyce E. Bates of the home, whom he married July 22, 1989; three daughters Kathy (Marc) Thomas of Johnstown, OH, Kris (Chad) Presnell of Sarahsville and Konny (Robert) Pickenpaugh of Caldwell; step daughter Teresa (Jay) Kennedy of Byesville; Grandchildren Jerad (Robbie), Kurt (Jessi) and Karly Thomas, Keith, Cash and Maggie Presnell, Kirystn and Josey Pickenpaugh, Scott Neff; two brothers Victor Bates of Canton, OH and Dave (Veronica) Bates of Pataskala, OH; three sisters-in-law Paulette Bates of Canton, Rita Fultz of Byesville and Carol (Howard) Christy of Ashland, OH. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. A private service was observed by the family and no public services will be held at this time.
