Kathy Leigh Thomas

Kathy Leigh Bates Thomas age 57, of Johnstown, OH passed away Tuesday morning February 24, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 13, 1957 in Cambridge, OH a daughter of Lucy Jane Wheeler Bates of Sarahsville, OH and the late Larry D. Bates.

She was a 1975 graduate of Shenandoah High School and received her business degree from the Columbus Technical Institute. Kathy was a life member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church near Pleasant City, OH. She had worked at the Gold Circle and Schottenstein Corporate Offices in the accounts payable departments. Most recently she was employed at the Rascal Animal Hospital in Dublin, OH. She was a volunteer at the Second Chance Humane Society in Johnstown. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother who was involved in all her childrens activities.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by step-mother Joyce Bates; granddaughter Samantha Ann Thomas; grandparents Myron and Alberta Bates, Wilbur and Grace Wheeler; father-in-law Donald Thomas; uncle Jim Bates and aunt Carol Gibson.

Those left to cherish her memory in addition to her mother are; husband Marc W. Thomas, whom she married July 12, 1980; mother-in-law Mary Thomas (Ed) Oechsli of Largo, FL; 2 sons Jerad A. (Robbie) Thomas of Hilliard and Kurt D. (Jessi) Thomas of Johnstown; daughter Karly R. Thomas of Johnstown; 2 sisters Kristy Presnell of Pleasant City and Konny (Robert) Pickenpaugh of Caldwell; grandchildren Mack Anderson Thomas, Kayla Reese Thomas, and Emmy Leighton Thomas; nephew Keith Presnell; nieces Kirstyn and Josey Pickenpaugh, Maggie Presnell; sisters-in-law Sharon Tscherne of Fort Meyers, FL, Sandra Codeluppi, Pam (Bill) Ott and Barb Thomas all of Norwalk; brother-in-law Donald (Fran) Thomas of Marietta, GA and Eric (Betty) Thomas of Salem, VA. She is also survived by several cousins and close friends.

Friends will be received Friday, February 27, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. Additional visitation will be observed Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Old Infirmary Road, Pleasant City, OH 43772. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 AM at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Poole Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
