Joseph E. "Joe" Parrish age 92, of Caldwell passed away Sunday, February 1st, 2009 at his residence. He was born July 29, 1916 in Noble County, Ohio a son of the late John and Hettie Bigley Parrish. Joe graduated from the Forest Grove School in 1934. He retired from Caldwell High after having taught Vocational Agriculture for 37 years and he also taught G.I. Classes to over 45 veterans. He was District Chairman of the Vo Ag District and was instrumental in the creation of the Ohio FFA Camp Program and helped secure the first camp facility. He was a member of the Noble County Agricultural Board of Directors for 19 years and a 4-H advisor for many years. He coached and taught parliamentary procedure teams and public speaking teams for contests for many years. He served as president of the Ohio Vocational Teachers Association, the Ohio Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association and the National Vocational Teachers Association. He was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church, Sharon Grange for 60 years, 60 Year Member of Sharon Lodge #136 F. & A.M., a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Freeport Chapter #319 O.E.S. He was inducted into the Ohio Fair Managers Hall of Fame in 2000 and received the American Farmer Degree in 1974. Joe also served his community as a Noble County Commissioner. He also participated and was a member of many more local organizations all directed towards the promotion of Vocational Agriculture and the education of the area youth. Surviving are his wife Martha King Parrish of the home, whom he married August 24, 1938; Four Daughters Sandra (Bill) Eardley of Key West, FL, Sally (Tom) Cornett of Cumberland, KY, Jody Parrish Polen of Caldwell and Kristi (Ron) Close of Caldwell; Eight Grandchildren Amy (Jeremy) Wheeler, Adam (Tab) Schafer, Ashley Schafer Powers, Crystal, Joseph and Sarah Cornett, Stephanie (Jason) Reed and Rhea Polen; Seven Great Grandchildren Peyton and Riley Wheeler, Will and Lyndi Schafer, Kailie Jackson, Andrea Saylor and Max Reed. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, friends and students. Friends will be received Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724 with a Masonic Ritual at 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Floyd Costello and Rev. Helen Lewis Officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery.
