Esther Marie Secrest

Life Legacy Esther Marie Secrest, age 92, of Hoskinsville, OH passed away Sunday, May 15th, 2011 at the Summit Acres Nursing & Rehab in Caldwell, OH. She was born January 8th, 1919 in Morgan County, OH a daughter of the late J. Lynn and Roxie Caldwell Reed. She was a graduate of the Reinersville High School and the Ohio University in Athens. She taught at the Pennsville Grade School for two years prior to starting her family. She was a lifetime member of Sharon Grange and Ragan's Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was very active. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and was a wonderful cook. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband J. Gordon Secrest whom she married July 18th, 1940 and who passed June 8th, 1989 as well as a sister Dortha Gerlach. She will be missed by her family, Son James G. (Nancy) Secrest of Hoskinsville; 3 Daughters Janet (Steve) Bates of Quaker City, OH, Jane Brumage of Oak Harbor, WA and Jenifer (Tony) Carpenter of Hoskinsville; 10 Grandchildren Nancy Snook, Sharon Winter, Brian Secrest, Carrie Spruill, Megan Bates, Ryan Bates, Arden Bond, Jessica Bond, Emily Casey and Allison Carpenter; 6 Great Grandchildren Alex & Tyler Secrest, Christina & Caroline Winter and Evan & Erica Snook; 2 Brothers John Reed of Albuquerque, NM and Robert (Beverly) Reed of Zanesville, OH. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received Thursday, May 19th, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM service time at Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. The Funeral Service will conclude the visitation Thursday at 8:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Sandy Payette Officiating. A cremation will follow with Inurnment in Hoskinsville Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Esther's name to Ragan's Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O.
