Dwight James Carpenter age 80, of Summerfield, OH passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024 at his home. He was born August 1, 1944 in Noble County, OH son of the late Otto and Ida Eschbaugh Carpenter.
   
  
   
  
He retired from Central Ohio Coal and has also been employed at the OSU Research Farm in Noble County. Dwight was a member of the American Legion Post 168 in Barnesville, Caldwell Fraternal Order of Eagles 2952, United Mine Workers Union, and the Noble County Cruzers Car Club. He loved the outdoors and could often be found on his John Deere or bulldozer caring for his cattle and working to keep the farm clean.
   
  
   
  
Dwight was a people person, whether it was taking in those in need, making fast friends with everyone he ever met, or telling jokes and tormenting his family and friends. He was a card player and enjoyed his trips to Wheeling Island to try his luck. Dwight was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He also loved his dogs and his Ford Mustang.
   
  
   
  
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Vicki N. Carpenter; sister V. Kathleen Keylor; nephews Ned, Jamie, and Julian Shreve.
   
  
   
  
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Violet Bennett Carpenter, whom he married June 17, 2017; son Guy (Heather) Carpenter of Summerfield; step-children Connie (Rusty) Baker of Cambridge, Tommy (Sarah) Nicholson of Dayton, OH, Kelly Henry of Columbus, OH, and Troy (Kerri) Nicholson of Pataskala, OH; grandchildren Paige (Dom) Carpenter, Lexi (Jesie) Carpenter, Kenzie (Ryan) Carpenter, A.J. Carpenter, Jerica Baker, Levi Baker, Wesley, Lauren, Avery, Greyson Nicholson; great-grandchildren Hayden Sue Harlow, (coming soon) Jansen James Harlow, Lucky Gerhart Garceau, Alena Gabrielle Garceau, and Riggs James; sisters LeAnna Horton of Zanesville, OH and Linda (Loren King) Warner of Summerfield; brother-in-law Larry Bennett of Summerfield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and good friends.
   
  
   
  
The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mark Slay and his son Guy Carpenter officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the Eastern Cemetery in Summerfield, OH.
