David Richard Merry

Life Legacy David Richard Merry, 81, beloved husband, father and grandfather and lifelong resident of Noble County, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Caldwell, Ohio. He was born on April 30, 1931, the son of the late Rufus and Ruby McElfresh Merry. David Merry graduated from Caldwell High School, where he participated in sports and band, in 1948. He attended The Ohio State University and entered the United States Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged. He was a Life Member of the VFW. He was greatly respected for his community service, including several years on the Caldwell Exempted Village School Board and leadership positions with boosters. He was a life member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother Robert Merry. He married Mary E. Rodeback Merry on November 5, 1955. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Carol Merry of Columbus, Ohio and Karen (Scott) Miller of Ostrander, Ohio, and by one granddaughter, Erica Miller. He was a 39-year employee of the U.S. Post Office, where he held various positions. He retired in 1999. Keeping with David's wishes, a cremation will be observed and the family will hold a private graveside service in Sharon Cemetery, at their convenience. Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724 has been entrusted to care for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the David Merry Youth Athletics & Band Fund c/o Community Savings Bank, 425 Main Street, Caldwell, OH 43724.
