Connie J. Brown

Connie J. Brown age 90, of Caldwell, OH passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at her home. She was born April 15, 1925 in Zanesville, OH a daughter of the late Homer and Bessie D. Downey Gorrell.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell and the former Amazon Chapter #30 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Belle Valley High School. She moved to Caldwell in 1958, when her husband Elvin Brown and Dick McConnell became business partners in the grocery business. They purchased City Market on West Street, and later built Gateway Market in order to accommodate their growing business. She worked for the Caldwell Public Library. She was a 4-H Advisor, Cub Scout Den Mother, Band Mother and could often be found enjoying her hobby, sewing.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Elvin C. Brown, whom she married June 6, 1944 and who passed on September 26, 1996; 2 granddaughters Lori Brown Jordan and Julie Brown.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 4 children Ron (Nancy) Brown of Seminole, FL, Gloria (Larry) Cecil of Salem, OH, Jon (Judy) Brown of Caldwell and David Brown of Caldwell; 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the conclusion of visitation at 2:00 pm in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Helen Lewis officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Hoskinsville Cemetery in Hoskinsville, OH.
