Clyde F Archer

Clyde F. Archer age 87, of Caldwell, OH departed this life on Thursday evening August 28, 2014 at 9:00 PM at Harmar Place Rehab & Extended Care in Marietta, OH where he had been a patient for the past few months. He was with his family as he left this life. He was born August 6, 1927 at the family home in Buffalo Township in Noble County, a son of the late John and Blanche Trenner Archer.

Clyde was a World War II veteran having served in the US Navy. Upon returning from the war, he worked as a mechanic at the former Barnhouse Chevrolet and drove their wrecker for approximately 20 years. He was later employed as a heavy equipment mechanic/welder for the Central Ohio Coal Company for about 24 years until his retirement at which time he opened his own machine/welding shop at their home. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union and the American Legion Post #64 in Marietta. Clyde was also a member of the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church in Mt. Ephraim, OH.

He married Twila Miley Archer of Caldwell on March 9, 1951 who survives. He is also survived by a brother Paul Archer of Caldwell; two sisters Nellie Merry of Columbus and Edith Hohman of Caldwell; a special sister-in-law Barbara (Art) Smith of Caldwell; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant sister, two sisters, his grandparents, two brothers-in-law, his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Friends will be received Monday, September 1, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Thomas Matus officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Ephraim Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church, 51901 Seneca Lake Road, Sarahsville, OH 43779.
