Charles W. Miller Sr. age 87, of Summerfield, OH formerly of Akron, passed away Sunday September 14, 2014 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, OH. He was born May 31, 1927 in Wadsworth, OH a son of the late William C. and Mary A. Baker Miller.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He retired, after thirty two years of faithful service from the Firestone Company in Akron. He was a back yard mechanic and could fix anything. He also loved auto racing, fishing, and his many trips to Canada teaching his family to fish. He enjoyed restoring cars and he was a Hudson enthusiast. He will forever be remembered by many as a man that never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Linda Klingman and a sister Gertrude E. Stokes.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his wife of 67 years Lucille Scott Miller, whom he married on April 9, 1947; 2 sons Donald (Elizabeth) Miller of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Charles Jr. (Claire) Miller of Akron; 1 daughter Susan (Kenny) Byrd of Summerfield; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Robert C. Miller of Akron and Paul (Lorena) Miller of Uniontown, OH. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation will be held, no visitation will be observed at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio has been entrusted to care for the family.
