Obituary

Agatha L. Schell age 93, of Akron, OH, formerly of Senecaville, OH, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center in Fairlawn, OH. She was born April 11, 1933 in Carlisle, OH, daughter of the late Argyll Sr. and Ruby Shafer Leasure.

Her greatest strength was found not only in the remarkable 93 years she lived, but in the grace and dignity with which she endured life’s unimaginable heartbreaks. Though she faced the profound loss of two sons and a grandson, she carried on for her surviving family with an unbreakable spirit, quiet courage, and boundless love. For many years, she was a devoted stay-at-home mom, pouring her heart into her family until her youngest child started middle school. She then began a proud, multi-year career at GE, where she worked with dedication until her retirement.

Beyond her work and devotion to family, Agatha was a woman of distinct style and vibrant passions. Always accessorizing each outfit perfectly, she loved having her hair and nails done and had a lifelong affection for the color purple. She was an avid reader and baker, an animal lover with a special fondness for horses and dogs—especially her beloved Miniature Pinschers—and a devoted fan of Elvis Presley and the Bee Gees. She lived life with a sharp wit, infectious laughter, and spirited independence. Whether she was shopping, laughing with friends, or hunting for treasures at a garage sale, her energy was unmistakable. She was well known for her love of a good Lincoln Town Car, earning the affectionate family nickname "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena," because she was never the lady you wanted to drive slowly in front of.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Denver L. Schell, whom she married October 17, 1987 and who passed away January 11, 2016; two sons Gary Hannahs and Tony Hannahs; grandson Lee Hannahs; brother Argyll Leasure Jr., and father of her children Myron Hannahs.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lisa (Dale Holler) Hannahs of Akron, OH; son Myron (Mary Jane) Hannahs of Ravenna, OH; seven grandchildren Jessica (Jeremy) Marsh, Megan (Andrew) Cohen, Jennifer (Mike) Pope, Gary Hannahs, Elizabeth (Brad Dangerfield) Hannahs, Sean (Abby) Hannahs and Logan Holler; eight great-grandchildren Tyler, Henry, Violet, Chloe, Gavin, Jaxon, Kyler, Grayson, and one on the way; sister Roma Jean Wharton of Caldwell, OH. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends. Many of whom understood how much receiving a card in the mail meant to Agatha and always took the time to send one.

The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, July 17, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with her niece and nephew, Cathie and Rick Barry, officiating. Burial will follow in Eastern Cemetery in Summerfield, OH.
