Walter A. “Butch” Griffin Jr. age 71 of Caldwell, OH passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at his home. He was born June 27, 1947 in Blossburg, PA a son of the late Walter A. Sr. and Elsie Wood Griffin.
Butch served and protected his nation in the US Army, having served 2 tours in the Vietnam War in the 577th Engineer Battalion. He was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church. He owned and operated the Griffin Bros. Appliance Store in Wellsboro, PA for many years. He could often be found cooking and hosting chicken barbeques, using his own special recipe for the chicken. He enjoyed fishing, and watching western movies, but what brought him the greatest joy in life was spending time with his granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 brothers Stephen Charles Griffin and Frederick Dale Griffin.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary Lou Haga Griffin whom he married May 18, 2001; 3 children Brian Griffin of Winter Haven, FL, Melissa (Brian) Dye, and Brian (Greta) McElfresh all of Caldwell; 5 granddaughters Kendra and Brittany Kelso, Madison Dye, Amelia and Paizlee McElfresh; 2 brothers Darryel Griffin of Little Marsh, PA and David (Shane) Griffin of Painesville, OH; 1 sister Sandra Macies of High View, WV. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, January 25, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will conclude visitation Friday, January 25, 2019 at 4:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Following the service Military Honors will be conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations. Cremation will follow with inurnment held at a later date.
