Philip J. "Phil" Harding

Philip J. “Phil” Harding age 90, of Caldwell, OH passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Summit Acres Skilled Nursing & Rehab in Caldwell. He was born May 22, 1927 in Guernsey County, OH a son of the late Kennon and Alma Montgomery Harding.

 

Phil served and protected his country in the United States Army. In 2014 Phil was inducted into the Noble County Veterans Hall of Fame. He proudly cared for many veterans over the years as an active member of the Noble County Color Guard. He was a member of the Saint Mary’s of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Usher’s Club, Knights of Columbus Council #2565, Belle Valley American Legion Post #641, Caldwell VFW Post #4721, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #221 in Caldwell. He retired from the former General Telephone Company following 37 years of service. Phil will be remembered as an avid Ohio State University football fan and the family recalls he played basketball and softball up until he was in his fifties.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 5 sisters Estelene Danford, Hazel McVicker, Helen Showalter, Wanda Roe, and Romaine Forbes; 3 brothers Tom Harding, Warren Harding, and Victor Harding.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary A. Shafer Harding, whom he married October 8, 1955; 3 sons Jeffrey (Joan) Harding of Caldwell, James (Jennifer) Harding of Summerfield, OH, and John (Tina) Harding of Marietta, OH; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Friends may join the family for Visitation on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Vigil Service held at the conclusion of visitation at 8:00 PM and the Knights of Columbus Service will immediately follow at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulda, with Rev. Father Wayne Morris & Rev. Father Chester Pabin serving as co-celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
