Leo Gibson age 76, of Caldwell, OH passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 suddenly at his home in Coal Ridge. He was born March 11, 1942 in Escambia County, FL a son of the late Otis and Ruby Townsend Gibson.
He attended the Ernest Ward High School. He went on to serve and protect his nation in the US Army from 1959 to 1962 stationed in Germany. In 1963 he married the love of his life Janice Betty Hickman Gibson and enjoyed 55 years with her. He retired from the State of Ohio O.D.O.T. and AutoZone in Cambridge, OH. He also worked for Donnie Rohrbaugh. Leo enjoyed going to auctions, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and as an avid Shenandoah sports fan, he always enjoyed attending Shenandoah High School football games with his grandson William. He also always loved having the family dog Jasper near him. He was a proud member of the Poarch Creek Indian Tribe of Poarch, Alabama.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth and Betty Hickman; infant grandson Stephen Leo Eltringham; 2 sisters Linda Hickman and Peggy Fowler; brother Otis Gibson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Janice Betty Hickman Gibson, whom he married April 13, 1963; 3 daughters Lana (Clint) VanHoose, Rhonda (David) Pangle, and Frances Gibson all of Caldwell; 1 son Bryan Gibson of Caldwell; 2 sons-in-law Tony Sholtis of Mt. Ephraim, OH and Steve Eltringham of Caldwell; grandchildren Ashley (Josh McLean) Sholtis, Josh (Dani) Sholtis, Kayleigh (Ceejay Riding) Pangle, Morgan Pangle, Cody Pangle, Michael Gibson, Brandy (Adam) Martin, Bethann Gibson, Roxxane (Dusty) Fritz, William Moore, Sammi VanHoose, and Anika VanHoose; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings Audrey (Joe) Ward, Billy (Sue) Gibson, and Nola (James) Burnham all of Florida, Julie Foster, Leon Gibson, Joyce Neuss, and Gary Gibson all of Alabama; 2 brothers-in-law Dewey Fowler of Florida and Ronnie Hickman of Caldwell; sisters-in-law Erma Gibson Davis of Florida, Joyce Young of Caldwell, and Debbie (Jack) Hansis of Marietta, OH. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, September 14, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724. A funeral service will be observed Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jim Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Village View Cemetery in Sarahsville, OH with military graveside honors conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
