Larry "Cecil" Hammonds

Larry Cecil Hammonds age 68, of Caldwell, OH passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH. He was born November 17, 1948 in Guernsey County, OH a son of the late Roy Lee and Mildred Louise Traylor Hammonds.

 

Cecil served and protected his nation in the United States Army. He attended Ragan’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a truck driver by trade having worked for Schott Lumber for many years and retiring from Jeff Keith Trucking. He had been a member of the Soakum Committee and was a member of the S.O.B. (Sweet Old Buzzards) that met weekly for many years. Anyone that met Cecil could tell his true passion was music, he was a member of the Nobleman Band and the Earl Wagner Band. With Theresa alongside him, he spent many hours providing entertainment and enjoyment for so many with the blessing of his music and talent.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son John Hammonds; brother Jimmie R. Hammonds and granddaughter Elexis “Lexi” Bender.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Theresa A. Hammonds whom he married Feb 16, 1989; children Bobbi Hammonds, Joyce (Greg) Crawford all of New Concord, OH, William (Kim) Hammonds of Columbus, OH, Joan (Steve) Bettinger of Caldwell, Barb (Jerry) Rayner of Cumberland, OH, and Mark E. Schott of Ava, OH; grandchildren Kelly (Sara) McDonald, Kevin McDonald, Samantha (Chad) Starcher, Josh Norman, Hunter Scott, Tori & Tanner Hammonds, Kimberly (Charley) Griffin, David (Kristy) Bettinger, Jessica (Joel) Crum, Alisa (Dalton Bauerbach) Rayner; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Norman Mike (Althea) Hammonds of Zanesville, OH; 3 sisters Nancy Reynolds, Lillie (Larry) Kirkbride all of Zanesville, and Patty (Larry) Garner of Pleasant City, OH; his children’s mother Billie (Alva) McCoy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, friends and many, many musician friends with whom he had so many great times.

 

The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, October 27, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Frank McAtee officiating. Burial will follow in Hoskinsville Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
