On the afternoon of August 19, 2019, Larry Wayne Godfrey of Parkersburg, WV. went to be with the Lord at the age of 77 while under hospice care at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio.
Larry was born in Letter Gap West Virginia in 1942 to the late Carris and Ruby Godfrey. He served in the United States Army from 1960 through 1966. Larry was trained as a Fixed Station Radio Operator and repairman and also trained and served as a member of the Military Police. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal for his active duty service during the Viet Nam war and also received commendations for marksmanship with both rifle and pistol. After the war he worked in a variety of occupations including continuing to serve his country with the US Postal Service, realty agent, sound and television technician, and security guard.
Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. His passion for the outdoors would find him hunting the hills of West Virginia or deep-sea fishing off the Atlantic coast. He enjoyed the study of history and was bolstered through life's struggles with his faith in the Lord.
Larry is preceded in death by his father Carris, mother Ruby, sister Barbara, second wife Sylvia, son Garth, and granddaughter Jennifer. He is survived by his first wife Linda, four children, Shawn, Michelle, Jeffrey, Mark, eight Grandchildren, Donhnall, Erin, Christina, Cody, Rebekka, Amanda, Melissa, Samantha, three great grandchildren Finnegan, Antonio, Stefan, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar West Virginia with full honors on August 30, 2019 at 2:30.
