Harold F. Schockling

November 29, 1924 ~ November 20, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old


Harold F. Schockling age 92, of Caldwell, OH passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Cedar Hill Care Center in Zanesville, Ohio, with his family at his side. He was born November 29, 1924, at the family home in Fulda, son of the late William and Lucy Dimmerling Schockling.

 

Harold was drafted in September of 1943 after graduating from Caldwell High School. He was captured on Anzio Beach, Italy, and remained a Prisoner of War for 12 months. On June 24, 1950, he married Margaret Schafer of Caldwell. Harold was a farmer, an Enoch Township trustee, and a US mail carrier, and retired in 1988. He was a lifetime member of Saint Mary’s of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Usher’s Club, Knights of Columbus Council #2565, Belle Valley American Legion Post #641, Caldwell VFW Post #4721, and the Noble County DAV Chapter #87. He loved farming, playing cards, and times with family and friends.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters Eileen and Evelyn Schockling; two brothers Ralph and Edward Schockling, and one infant son Kevin Schockling.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years Margaret; his children Bill (Maria) Schockling, Mary (Jack) Pangle, Bob Schockling, and Ron (Traci) Schockling all of Caldwell, Diane (Marti) Neff of Montana, and Janet (Al) Chonko of Sagamore Hills; two sisters Betty Trinquero of Maryland and Lola Geldmacher of Louisville; sister-in-law Carolyn Schockling of Caldwell. Harold had nine grandchildren: Staci (Mike) Schulte, Keri (Adam) Willis, Kelly Pangle, Kayla, Kevin, and Kyle Chonko, Maci and Brody Schockling, and step-grandson Ryan (Marcie) Sakash. Great-Grandchildren are Adalynn and Ainsley Willis, Annalise Schulte and step-great-grandsons Jacob and Hudson Sakash.

 

The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, November 24, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724, with Vigil and Knights of Columbus Services concluding visitation at 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Father Wayne Morris serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
